We are the narrative team behind the chart-topping games Matchington Mansion and My Beauty Spa, as well as hundreds of other best-in-class casual games.
The Brunette Games team is passionate about story, and we love our stories best when they are interactive, when the person experiencing the story is not doing so passively but actively, interactively, as part of the story. A player is different from a reader. Players can shape their own characters and make decisions that affect how the story goes—and how it ends. Players want to solve problems, complete challenges. They want to win.
We are wordsmiths with a nerdy bent for logic, poets with pocket protectors, storytellers who know better than to let text get in the way of the game. We play a lot of games and read a lot of books. We also read a lot of games and play some books. We’re a rare breed in this industry and in the world, and that’s part of why we’re in demand and growing. The other reason is because we’re very good at what we do—some say the best.

We’ve had clients conduct A/B testing on our design and writing vs. what they can get elsewhere or in-house, and ours always comes out on top in terms of player satisfaction and game performance. This data is right in line with what I proved with similar A/B testing during my tenure at Big Fish, and it's why that company charged me with building a team of narrative designers to work on all their third-party games. A well-trained, professional narrative designer's contribution improves the quality and customer rating on game stories, and that translates to better performance.
Head Writer/Designer and CEO Lisa Brunette has credits in hundreds of games played by worldwide audiences in the millions. Her 25 years’ experience includes more than a decade designing games and game narratives and fifteen years as a published author prior to that. Sender Unknown: The Woods, a game she designed for Daily Magic Productions, was nominated for an International Mobile Gaming Award, and Gamezebo called it the “next leap forward” in mobile. Brunette’s games have been featured in the App Store and on Google Play and consistently rank in the top 10 in multiple categories. She was visiting professor of games and game design at Webster University for the 2017-18 school year and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences as well as schools, non-profits, and libraries. All three books in her bestselling Dreamslippers Series have won indieBRAG medallions, and the second book was a finalist for the Nancy Pearl Book Award and nominated for a RONE Award. Additionally, she has a long list of bylines as a journalist, her work appearing in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Seattle Woman, Poets & Writers, and elsewhere. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from University of Miami, where she was a Michener Fellow.
Writer/Designer Elisa Mader comes to Brunette Games with more than five years' experience in the game industry, across many different platforms and genres. Her AAA copyediting work includes Bungie's Destiny 2: Forsaken and Destiny 2: Warmind. She also edited numerous hidden-object puzzle adventure titles for Big Fish Games, as well as such critically acclaimed strategy and roleplaying games as Harebrained Schemes' BattleTech, Shadowrun: Hong Kong, and Shadowrun: Dragonfall. Her game writing has appeared in Shadowrun: Hong Kong and the recently released casino slots game Millionaire Mansion, which she wrote and designed for Mitosis Games as an independent. She studied French and German at Bryn Mawr College and went on to complete graduate work in French and Medieval Studies at Yale University.
Junior Writer/Designer Tamsen Reed is currently working on G5 Entertainment’s hit game Homicide Squad. She’s studying for the BA in Games and Game Design at Webster University, with plans to graduate in spring 2019. Through her course work, including Brunette’s classes in narrative design and world design, she has written video-game scripts and game text as well as scripts for TV/film and radio/podcasts. Reed has a near-perfect GPA and has consistently made the Dean’s List. Her previous experience includes office management, events coordination, and ticket management for Harbor Duck Adventures.
Junior Writer/Designer Dexter Woltman is currently working on Cherrypick Games’ upcoming title, My Beauty Spa. He is a senior pursuing a degree in Scriptwriting at Webster University. He also has a near-perfect GPA and ongoing standing on the Dean's List. Through his coursework, he has written scripts for television, film, newscasts, radio, commercials, and games, particularly through Brunette’s game design and narrative design courses. Woltman is also currently interning with Coolfire Studios and has had real-world experience with event coordinating, client dealings, and production development, especially through previous employment at REM SouthCentral Services and at Escape St. Louis, which provides in-person escape-room games.

We begin with a conversation in person or over Skype about your current needs and objectives. This gives us the opportunity to meet face-to-face, get to know one another, and discuss a potential working relationship.
Step Two: Proposal and Cost Estimate
Next, you provide a Non-Disclosure Agreement for Lisa Brunette to sign, if needed. Then you can securely share documents with us, such as a concept proposal or pitch deck, templates, concept art, prototypes, flow charts, etc. These will give us a solid understanding of your project, and we can create a proposal with a timeline and cost estimate for completion.
Step Three: The Work
Once we’ve agreed to terms and signed contracts and work orders, our design and writing for you begin. We will bill on a work-order or project basis once the deliverable is accepted, and most clients opt to send payment by wire transfer.
